Divorce Coaching
Divorce coaching is a service provided by a mental health professional to help a separating/divorcing person on a short-term basis through the divorce process. Because emotions run high during divorce, it’s important to have lots of information about what to expect, ideas for how to cope with the unknowns, guidance about what the children need, and problem-solving support so you can make good decisions for yourself, your children, and your future.
Divorce coaching is not therapy; in fact, many people who utilize a coach already have a therapist. Divorce coaches help you stay focused on what you need to do now and put in place for the future. It is a practical, problem-solving activity that lasts only for the duration of the divorce process and on an as-needed basis. Coaching helps you identify your vision for your future, develop the communication skills that will make you an effective negotiator for yourself, and manage the inevitable emotional ups and downs. Many decisions need to be made about where you will live, where the children will spend their time, how you will manage a new financial situation and possible employment changes. Divorce coaching provides the framework for you to consider these issues with a clear head and make good decisions for yourself.
